Shannon Floyd Quick
FOUNDER
Hello! I teach by day full time and work on furniture by night as a side hustle. I have decorated homes, upholstered custom pieces, and painted custom dressers, hutches, beds, tables, etc. for about 15 years. I love all things western, rodeo, and farmhouse. I grew up around cattle, riding horses, team penning, running barrels, rodeos, and have spent many long nights at roping pens. I fell in love with every aspect of the cowboy lifestyle. Making western decor makes me happy! And, I love seeing my customers get excited over their new purchases!!
My Story
I began doing craft shows about 17 years ago with my mom. We called ourselves….’My Mom and Me’. My girls were young at the time and there was nothing cute in stores to use to decorate their rooms. So, we began making and painting children’s furniture and wall decor’. As my girls grew, my crafts changed and evolved. I have painted, stained, rebuilt, chalk painted, and distressed many pieces over the years for both my shows and for the public. I enjoy painting and the whole process as each piece transforms into their new life.
I love collecting old, discarded pieces that people think are useless and giving them a new life! It reminds me of how each of us have stains and brokenness in our lives, but through Christ we realize our value and purpose and are given a new life. That one thing motivates me each day. The ability to create and watch old furniture transform into something valuable again. Once it is finished, I enjoy seeing it ‘loved again’ by its new owner!
Since 2013, I have been known as Grit-n-Grace Trading Post. Yes, the name represents the struggles of life, the grit it requires to succeed and the grace that sustains us all. I continue to paint furniture, but my heart is in upholstery with mixed materials such as cowhides, Pendleton wool, aztec prints, sheep skin, and other fabrics. I like creating statement pieces that perpetuate the Native American and Western cultures…..and are as unique as their future owners.
